Vertical caving ranges from breathtaking to "this may
be my last breath!"
West Virginia is blessed (or cursed) with a moderate number of
sites requiring ropework, with several in the 200' range. Neighboring
Pennsylvania contains only a handful of honest pits. The pit capital
of the U.S. is the T.A.G. region (Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia)
centered around Chattanooga.
