Designed for applications where routine maintenance may be infrequent, dangerous, or difficult. Built from the ground up to never separate, never delaminate, and possibly never need re-coated. Steel mounting brackets will outlast any wooden post they are attached to. The super-duty exterior encases a traditional rectangular baffle cluster seven chambers thick, providing roosting space for up to 210 Myotis-sized bats.

The shell is composed of one half steel and exterior plywood, then end-user painted with either rust-resistant paint or readily available spray-on truck bed liner. The truck-bed liner comes in a spray can available from Wal-Mart or auto parts stores and provides an incredibly durable finish. This bat house should remain airtight and remain servicable for many times longer than even the best protected wooden bat house. The interior baffles are still traditional yellow pine plywood to add mass thereby retaining heat at night. Our bat houses never need cleaning as the droppings simply fall to the ground. Baffles are estimated to last over 20 years, based on similar material used in other existing, occupied bat houses.

Each baffle is individually hand scratched for some of the best bat footholds around. Each baffle features a pass-thru at the top, allowing bats to easily change crevices. This special "attic"area allows bats to roost against the top of the roof. Baffles form standard 0.75'' crevices, suitable for little brown, Indiana, and big brown bats, and many other species across North America.

Compared to most other bat house designs, mounting our Seven Chamber bat house is truly dream come true. Simply attach the mounting bracket to a post or a structure, then hang the bat house on the mount. Seven Chamber bat houses are designed to be incredibly modular. Four can be installed at the top of a single 4''x6''x18' post for high capacity in a small area. Four Seven Chamber bat houses have a potential capacity of over 800 bats. We know of one customer who has placed 8 Steel Bat Houses on a single large post.

Our Seven Chamber Steel bat house is based on the latest successful alternative material experiments being conducted by the Pennsylvania Game Commission (photo at top credit: Cal Butchkoski PGC Biologist). The PGC had begun noting a number of aging bat houses were failing around the roof due to inadequate maintance. Eliminating as much wood from the exterior as possible creating long term roosts, and doing so as inexpensively as possible has been the ongoing goal for bat conservation. Bat Conservation and Management recognizes the need for affordable, long term, homeowner managable bat houses and addresses the problem with the Seven Chamber Steel bat house, partially made from recycled military storage boxes to keep costs down.

To install a Seven Chamber bat house:

• Spray 1 coat of Rust-oleum primer on the steel exterior of the bat house. Apply 3 or more coats of exterior paint or stain to the wooden exterior of the bat house. All bat houses need painted on site after shipping and installation for best finish. Postal regulations prevent us from including paint with your order.

• Select mounting location and install bottom mount bracket onto your post our building (lag bolts for mounting into wood included, site tips included in manual)

• Steady bat house on the bottom bracket. The top bracket is welded to the bat house, just drive lag bolts thru bracket into your post. Secure bottom of bat house to bottom bracket using lag bolts and pre-drilled holes.

• Coat entire bat house and brackets with either Dupli-Color Truck Bed Coating ($7.99) or Rust-oleum paint products available at any Wal-Mart or auto parts store!
