Program length: 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, optional field observations
Suitable age groups: 12 and up

Description: Young and old alike will discover the wonders of these masters of the night through a combination of live interpretation, customized Pennsylvania slide program, and/or videotape. A sample outline may appear something like this:

If possible the group is then taken outside to view an evening exit of a bat colony or to observe bats in natural habitat. The interpreter tailors each program to the group and is very flexible.

Location: The talk itself can be given virtually anywhere, and suitable sites for viewing outstanding examples of evening bat exits are in Blair County, Somerset County, Westmoreland County, Crawford County, Huntingdon County, Perry County, and Montgomery County.

Bat watch timing: As a general guide, July and August are the best months for observing bats, with May, June, and September also very good. Programs are often planned to begin roughly two hours before dusk to allow for time to observe bats.
