Site overview

Route 6 Coal Mine
This abandoned anthracite coal mine near Route 6 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania is a popular attraction for local children. The mine was surveyed and determined to be suitable for bats. As a result, this site remains open as wildlife habitat but now sporting a bat friendly gate, maintaining a level of security for the landowner.

Due to the remote location of the site, this gate was completely assembled in one marathon sixteen hour period on November 1-2, 1999. With all welding and cutting complete, an additional half day was spent cementing the footer.

Please contact Bat Conservation and Manangement for more information about gate projects or a bid request.
