| July 10, 2000 Rain, doom, gloom, what's new? |
First report was for afternoon thundershowers.
Then the rain was supposed to end at dusk.
Then it was suppose to stop at midnight.
Well, as I write this, it's the day after and it's STILL RAINING. What is with this area?
My mini-vacation was over and I returned to the Kanawah bringing rain, flash floods, and two new triple-high net systems. Dave and I set one of these new rigs near Hurricane Creek (Hummmm.....) and tuned up the system. I left in search of my next site downriver, but was met with a wall of water which did not let up until...actually, I dunno when it let up. I turned my trip into a scouting mission and identified five new potential sites as we march towards Point Plesant. Dave rode it out until three AM, as he continued to see bats flying throughout the intermittant showers at his site. None made the mistake of falling into either the triple high or a single high over Hurricane Creek.
Above: High runoff somewhere around Frazier's Bottom. I'd give it a class III-IV whitewater rating, for the lack of eddys, riverwide unavoidable obstacles (low water bridge in upper frame, various overhanging trees and mailboxes, etc.) and violent cross-currents (culvert infeeders), and constant maneuvering while saloming through nicely landscaped yards.
