| July 16, 2000 Poison. poison, poison, poison, poison |
The afternoon was again spent arranging paperwork, catching up on plotting site maps, and entering data into spreadsheets and databases, contributing to an uninspired daily update.
Action picked up in the evening as we marched ever closer to Point Pleasant and set up a new site on mucky end of a large embayment. Poison ivy not only grows there, I believe it was invented there. Luckily, no stinging nettles (oh but wait until the next site I'm sure). We set the triple high among the swamp muck and rigged from poison ivy trees. Sigh. Fortunately, I was able to scam out after that only to find my trusty bottle of Technu poison ivy killer was spent. A priority mission ensued with a trip to the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Galliopoli (sp.?), providing the most excitement of the day.
Dave picked up a single red bat in the triple high among the ivy fields, while I struck out at Southside, despite catching the pip yesterday during a rain shower. Go figure.
The triple high set in the process of installation. We attempted to place over the water, but waist seep mega-muck makes this an unrealistic option unless one wants to become a permenant fixture to the place. We chose the pennisula of posion ivy instead, hardly a trade off, if you ask me. Anything for wildlife.
Here's Dave showing signs that the 15-day straight project is starting to wear on him. The field of posion ivy, my constant complaining about pincher bugs, and daily rain showers seemingly always while we're setting up, would alltogether make a lesser man go postal.
