Another site, another flood.
Here we finally dipped into Ohio and back, establishing site #26 just east of Point Pleasant. This marks the end of our rather long journey from Gauley Bridge nearly a month ago. We searched for a site which looked similar to site 25 topographically, but when we arrived no surface stream could be found. This may have been for the better for when I returned to #25 water was already up a foot and still rising from an afternoon shower.

Before it was done, the river was over waist deep where yesterday it was below the knees. Despite this I still managed a pipestrelle in the triple high net set.

Dave with his new, relatively dry site, picked up a northern long ear, and a little and big brown.

Below: Compare with yesterday's photos. The river came up another foot since this was taken.

For those who are following this website closely, tonight marks a major transition as Dave and I will be pulling out to start another unrelated mist net project in northeastern West Virginia. Meanwhile, the second crew headed by Chris Sanders will be finishing up their very successful project in the Monogehela National Forest and arriving on the Kanawha around the first week in August. So hang in there, check back occasionally as I will be posting preliminary results and stats on our 250+ net nights here in the mighty Kanawha.
