| The trap was reset tonight in order to acquire our next player in "Sodalis vs. Human Technology".
At 10:00 wonderful female sodalis weighing in somewhere around 6.8 grams happened in the holding cage during the first check. Our trap system seems to be running quite efficiently for this project. The trap was removed again to eliminate impact on the hibernation site. The Ibat 2 was released at 12:30 in hopes it would quickly set up camp nearby and we could get an early nights sleep. No chance of that as the bat used the early release time to get a hell of a start onward to it's summer home. The fun starts almost immediately as the bat forages briefly then treks south and east. Coverage was quite good with three receivers racing down south 32, even managing to occasionally get in front of the critter. Some of the last critical contacts were from the mall/cinema parking lot on Rt. 9 in Poughskeepie (sp.?) , with the signal west, probably across the river. Unfortunately, our receiver on 9W ran out of gas and was working on that problem. At 2:04 I picked up the bat from 9D just north of Beacon, with my signal from the SW towards Newburgh. We continued down 9D all the way to Rt. 6, the bat did not cross the Hudson, but was not picked up again despite searching the nice forest around West Point, etc. Today we are mounting a massive ground attack with eventually four vehicles... Left: Our frisky bat #2...doesn't care to sick around much. A Jersey bat?? |
