| After recovering from our all day/half night search south for Ibat #4, we turned to the trap again for another subject.
We trapped until nearly 2:00 AM with our largest capture yet with over 200 bats. Female little browns vastly outnumbered other species, but a few Northern longeards, big browns, and even a small footed bat made an appearance. No sodalis were captured at all, allowing for a well deserved catch-up of sleep and map making. This marks the first night in five that we struck out in capturing a suitable sodalis. Tomorrow is another night... Meanwhile, our airstrike is beginning to materialize; it appears that Thursday will be the first day over Connecticut, weather permitting. Since the last three updates were rather bland, I've decided to spice things up a bit with a short bat trapping movie. It shows a little brown testing the harp and ultimately becoming captured. The file size is 4.5 megs, but what the heck. To view it you will need a Quicktime compatible movie viewer. If you need to download Quicktime, visit the Apple website (yes, you Wintel people get the PC version) at Apple Computer. |
