| At the request of the NY Division of Wildlife, an internal survey was made of the mine which we have focused most of our attention on. After all, the DOW is about to launch a similar project at an unrelated site in the far north, so they are understandably concerned if all of the bats have already left all of our mines down here. The preliminary word is that there is still quite a number of bats, including sodalis, at the project mine. We now have to wonder how many of those are females. It is now after midnight and my phone has not rung, so I may not be in a terrible rush to return to the project site tomorrow night.
Since we are now shifting into a drawn out stake out, which we did not anticipate, plastic on several mine entrances is being removed during the day in order to lessen airflow impact. |
