Roxbury Mine Gate
The Roxbury Mine in Connecticut was found to have multiple entrances on several levels, the largest being a 20'x40' open pit 50 feet deep. Over the years local bats have also found that it is an ideal hibernaculm. Today over 2,000 individuals over winter there, making the Roxbury Mine the largest known hibernaculm in Connecticut.
Three vertical pit entrances were gated over 20 years ago, but have out lived their useful lifetime. BCM associates helped install a modern bat friendly gate around the existing red gate over the course of a week. The old, red gate was then removed. This also appears to be the largest gate of it's kind in the northeast U.S. In the lengthy video, you will get a "nickel tour" of the work site and conditions at the remote makeshift camp shot over the period of several days.
